How to Make Your Perfume Last All Day
Let’s face it, there are not many things worse than spritzing yourself with your favorite perfume only to have it fade 10 minutes later! Perfume is pricey one’s gotta do whatever it takes to make it last all day. Dramatic? Yes. True? Also yes.
The following are my current go to perfumes in rotation, many appear on The Products That Always Get Me Compliments. The newest edition is Tom Ford’s Black Orchid - I’ve been told I smell like a Miami Beach hotel (in a good way!) when wearing this, love it!
There are different levels of perfume concentration -
Pure parfum (highest oil concentration)
Eau de parfum
Eau de toilette
Eae de cologne
Eau fraiche (lowest level of concentration)
Most commonly you’ll find eau de parfums and eau de toilettes in most department stores. Some select fragrances will carry different concentrations for specific scents. For me, I prefer an eau de parfum for daily use - it’s just the right amount of fragrance that lasts all day but doesn’t overwhelm.
Tips to Make Your Perfume Last Longer
Layer, layer, layer. If I'm really obsessed with a perfume I’ll usually get the lotion version of it too but this doesn’t always happen for EVERY single perfume ya know? So, if you can’t layer a lotion or oil, the next best thing is to add a dab of Vaseline on your pulse points. This gives a great base for your perfume to stick to and will help it last all day.
Store in a cool dry place. Where you store your perfume matters! Storing in a cool, dry place away from sunlight is your best bet. Not only can sunlight alter the scent, it begins to breakdown the ingredients quicker - so it won’t smell the same and won’t last - who wants to deal with that??
Do not rub your wrists! Contrary to popular habits - rubbing your wrists together after application is no bueno. This can dull top notes and accelerate evaporation. The top notes are the first thing you smell and often times people’s favorite part of a fragrance, so ya definitely want these to last! The best way to go about it is simply letting your perfume air dry, but if you MUST just a gentle dab is okay.
Spray a little onto your hairbrush. Some may say spray directly into your hair, but I don’t recommend this as perfumes contain alcohol which can be harsh on hair. It’s less drying to have this on the brush and gently diffused thought your hair.
Apply to the right areas. Focus on your pulse points - wrists, neck, chest, behind the knee. Naturally this will help give you an aura of the fragrance - plus it will also work with your your body chemistry best.
