Why You Should be Using Essential Oils
Okay guys, let’s talk about some of my favorite things EVER.
E S S E N T I A L O I L S.
YEP they are basically the best skin savers, mood boosters, sleep aids, cleaning solutions, literally everything!
Feeling sick? Lemon oil!
Tired? Peppermint oil can help with that.
Have a pimple? Slap some tea tree on that bad boy.
I wish I had started using them sooner, tbh. It’s been about 3 years now of consistent use and I am hooked for life! Pure, natural grade oils are save to use topically, aromatically or by ingesting them. Below I share several of the oils that have worked well for me. I am by no means a medical professional so please make sure to do your research and only use legit products.
There are tons of options out there. Some oils are best suited as aromatics (like freesia or gardenia) and then there are others that can really work wonders cosmetically (like tea tree). When using oils topically it’s best to mix them with a carrier oil or other mixing agent like water.
First things first, you’ll want to make sure you have a good diffuser. I have mine set to run sporadically throughout the day so whenever I come home it’s the first thing I smell. Such a nice way to walk in the door after a long day.
Lavender - This one has probably been the biggest game changer, especially for my hubby. Before using lavender oil he was suffering from insomnia. I’m so glad the thought crossed my mind one day for him to try it. Since then he’s been sleeping much better! We keep this one on our nightstand. Just a drop under your nose and neck will do the trick! I also use this to make a lavender/lemon sheet spray. All you need is a small spray bottle, water and 10-15 drops of lemon and lavender each. Keeps your bed full of soothing lavender plus keep sheets fresh af. VOILA!
Rosemary - Rosemary is best known for stimulating hair regrowth (who doesn’t love that??). I keep a bottle in the shower and mix just a few drops with my shampoo and couple it with a deep scalp massage each time I wash my hair, which tbh is only about once a week.
Rose - One of my favorites to use in the diffuser! Give me rose scented EVERYTHING. I could go on and on about my love for all things rose, will eventually do a separate post on it. It is known for being a mood and libido booster heyyoo! My favorite rose oil comes in this set. They even have some yummy collections available just in time for Thanksgiving!
Peppermint - The ultimate energy booster! I keep this little bottle in my bag. Whenever I’m feeling sluggish at work or need a little more mental focus, I’ll put a drop under my nose and behind my temples and will almost instantly feel more alert. There’s a reason schools will give students peppermints before standardized tests!
Tea Tree - PSA!!! Anyone suffering from acne (even the occasional blemish!) should have a bottle of this stuff. Tea tree is known for its antiseptic qualities. FUN FACT - this past year I’ve started spot treating blemishes with a drop or two and see significant improvement the next day. Not only does it help with redness and inflammation, it clears out excess oil from the skin. Word of caution though - be careful not to overuse! This can lead to drying of the skin if you use too much. For starters I would limit use to 3x a week to get started so you can see how your skin handles the drying properties.
Orange - The sweetest essential oil of them all. Orange is known for being the ultimate mood booster and anti depressant. I love using this one during a warm day, it just feels right ha!
Lemon - Probably the best know for it’s anti bacterial properties, which is what makes it such a great cleaning agent and it smells AH-mazing. I keep a spray bottle of lemon & orange oil water for a quick room refresher or gentle cleaning solution. My favorite here.
A little bit goes a long way with oil, you really do not need much to see results. Health and beauty benefits aside, most oils have a reasonable price point! I’m all for a good deal, and a tiny bottle of tea tree oil is WAY less expensive than most acne solutions out there. #worthit
